The Economist – Is Portland a leader among USA cities or just strange?

Economist Portland NORTH

A somewhat strange headline I’d say…

THE city most comparable to Portland might be Vancouver in Canada, reckons Sam Adams, Portland’s mayor, although “we look to Amsterdam, Helsinki and Stockholm” for ideas. Ethan Seltzer, a professor of urban planning in Portland, thinks little Freiburg, in Germany, is the best comparison, with its similar obsessions about recycling, sustainability, public transit and bicycling. Others pick Zurich, which, like Portland, has a view of snow-capped mountains, orderly (bordering on staid) streets with trams, even the same peculiar fondness for direct democracy and tolerance of assisted suicide.

NORTH was fortunate to be featured in a just-released new book – Where We Work: Creative Office Spaces by the creators of the design web site – This Ain’t No Disco: This Is Where We Work and now Fast Company has a feature on some of the spaces covered in the book.

It’s great to find NORTH in the excellent company of David & Goliath and Taxi too.

Jimmy Choo kicks off social media campaign using Foursquare

Jimmy Choo Foursquare Twitter Facebook

So ladies, if you are in to scavenger hunting to get some free Jimmy Choo trainers, then your in luck. Jimmy Choo has launched just such a hunt, or game, in London using Foursquare. A pair of Jimmy Choo trainers will turn up in various locations around the city. If you catch up with them on Foursquare before the trainers leave for their next destination, you’ll win a pair to keep. If nothing else, this is a smart brand awareness campaign. We’ll be seeing more of this from other brands.
