North American Bancard and Troy Police Team Up to Combat Credit Card Fraud

November 28, 2011

TROY, Mich., Nov. 28, 2011 - In keeping with the Troy Police Department’s mission to partner with the community to assist with preventing and solving crime, North American Bancard (NAB), a Troy-based credit card processing company, is donating three credit card terminals to the Troy Police Department.

With the increase in identity theft, credit card, pre-paid card, gift card, and other card-based frauds, the Troy Police Department has discovered a need for road patrol officers and investigators to determine the account information embedded on the magnetic strips of suspected fraud cards. Due to the complexity of the crimes involved and the limited information that merchants capture at time of purchase, officers are often left with very little information regarding the account embedded on the suspected cards.

The Troy Police Department has reached out to NAB, an industry leader in credit card processing, for assistance. NAB has enthusiastically donated three credit card readers to assist in investigations of criminal use of fraudulent cards and identity theft.

On November 15, 2011, NAB representatives Randy Lobban, the Director of Risk Management, and Erica Lin, Social Media Analyst, presented three credit card terminals to Officer Andy Breidenich, the Troy Police Department’s Retail Liaison and Public Information Officer.

“North American Bancard fully supports the efforts of law enforcement agencies, both locally and federally. As a credit card processor, we are in a unique position to help the Troy Police Department combat credit card fraud using our technology,” said Lobban.
